Intra – Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection – Insemination ( ICSI ) | icsi Procedure :
Is indicated & proved successfully in case of immotile sperms & sperm count less than 5 million /ml with pregnancy rate of 30 to 40%
A single sperm is injected in to the cytoplasm of the oocyte, which is than incubated overnight. Micro pipette is used to hold the oocyte while the spermatozoon is deposited inside the ooplasm by an injecting pipette.
Indications for ICSI are :-
¨ Sperm count less than 5 million/ml
¨ Absent (Or) reduced sperm motility
¨ Abnormal sperm morphology
¨ Previous IVF has failed
¨ Un explained infertility
→ Sperm is recovered from the ejaculate. Otherwise sperm is retrieved by TESE (testing sperm
extraction) or by MESA(micro surgical epididymal sperm aspiration) procedures.
RESULTS :-
. Fertilisation rate is about 60 to 70%, pregnancy rate is 20 to 40% per embryo transfer.
